Plus it would have taken several months at least for the dead to decay enough to not be a threat. And if they could get in the mall, they could get through that one door onto the roof. Then if you're on the roof & safe, you have to think about the elements & shelter from it. If it were up to me, I'd hike it to a non-heavily populated area somehow.
