Page 4 Swinging up the shotgun on its
tether he pressed it into the things face and two thoughts occurred to him at
once, first that he didn’t want to damage the truck with the buckshot so he
gave the weapon an upward angle through her head and up towards the ceiling.
The second thing was that he realized that she was rather strikingly beautiful
in life, and her husband in the matching track suit came stumbling in with a
moan. Shifting his to the side and getting a different angle he squeezed the
trigger for the upper barrel and with a deafening roar both of the deaders
dropped beneath a haze of pink mist. Coming to his feet in a crouched position
he quickly moved to the into the cab sweeping right with the shortened weapon
he blasted down one more in the doorway dropped the empty weapon to hang
beneath his shoulder and drew out the .357 dropping the last one as it came to its
feet. Sliding the driver’s door closed he got to work and tossed the bodies out
the passenger door and closed it as well, then recovered and reloaded his
weapons and stepped out the back of the truck and into the store formulating a
plan as he went. Moving back through the office he secured the door behind him
and stepped through back into the store and found his fellow survivors all
huddled behind the counter and quietly watching the eighteen inch T.V. screen. "New feed?" He asked walking towards
them snatching a fresh beer off the display and coming around to stand next to
the old man who gave him and the new weapons a quizzical look that would have
to wait cause just then the emergency broadcast tone stopped and the news
caster came on. "Ladies and gentlemen we have
returned with very little new information but there is some facts that we do
know for sure at this point. The recently deceased are returning to life to
attack the living, bites scratches and any fluids from the dead in turn cause
infection and death, the only way to put down those that are reanimated is to
pierce or destroy the brain. Authorities with the state disaster preparedness
office and the National Guard have advised those of you that are at home or in
a safe place to barricade all doors and windows and stay inside, do not answer
your door and do not let anyone inside especially those who have been bitten or
scratched." The news caster took a drink of what appeared to be whiskey from a
tumbler pulled a face as he smoothed his sweat streaked hair back into place
and cleared his throat before speaking again. "The Department of Defense and
the CDC have ruled out a terrorist attack or biological weapon by the fact that
there are reports from all across the nation and the world. I am now to repeat
that all those that are in your homes to remain there and not go outside or try
to reach friends or relatives the roads are completely jammed and turning into
rolling massacres and fires are rampant and unchecked due to riots in the
downtown area. I-5 through Fort Lewis is a battlefield as civilians and the
undead alike try to fight their way onto the base and the Stryker battalion
holds them back. As for those of you that are not in a safe location there is a
list of open rescue stations and evacuation depots scrolling across the bottom
of your screen and shall be updated as new information comes in and all news is
available on AM radio 1190. God bless us all and good luck." The screen then
went blue and all the Safety information began to run on the screen. "Ok here’s the plan, there’s a box
truck backed up into the loading dock with the keys in the ignition. We are
what ten miles South of Orondo and this is saying the nearest outpost is in
Chelan. That gives us about a Hundred miles worth of ground to cover and
probably a packed highway to do it on let alone who knows how long till the
station Evacs everyone and pulls their steaks. Anybody have any questions so
far?" The Gunny asked as he handed the sawed off shotgun to the old salt. "The
Korean thought he was a cowboy apparently because there was that and then this
here" he said patting the revolver on his hip. "Mac you want to go ahead and
see what you can find for the rest of these folks by way of protection? Do you
know how to use this?" He asked the Mexican girl. "A little bit, I grew up around em
but you can show me real quick if you want to." She said only a little
provocatively and smiling prettily at him. [ Continue to page 5 ] |
