Want to know about phobias? Take it from someone who’s done extensive personal
research -- they’re a bitch. Here’s an overview; I’ll try to keep it brief.
There’s Acrophobia: fear of heights, I’ve got that so bad sometimes it’s hard
for me to stand on a chair to change a light bulb. Then there’s Agoraphobia:
fear of places where escape’s impossible. Aibohpphobia: fear of palindromes.
Algophobia: fear of pain. Anthropophobia: fear of becoming part of an
organization, club, or company. Aquaphobia -- self-explanatory. Astraphobia:
fear of thunder and lightning; also called Astrapophobia, Brontophobia,
Keraunophobia. Autophobia: you might think I have this seeing as how I’m
afraid to drive cars but I don’t. Autophobia’s actually a fear of being alone;
something I have no problem with. Ask anyone I know. Aviophobia: fear of
flying; also called Aviatophobia. Bacillophobia, Bacteriophobia,
Microbiophobia all refer to a fear of germs. Choreophobia: fear of dancing.
Chromophobia: fear of colors. Cibophobia: fear of food; the forerunner of
anorexia. Claustrophobia you should know. Coulrophobia: fear of clowns -- I
got it. Dental phobia, Dentophobia, Odontophobia all refer to a fear of
dentistry. Dysmorphophobia is more of an obsessive disorder dealing with a
fear of bodily deformities, real or imagined; sometimes called body dysmorphic
disorder. Emetophobia: fear of vomiting. Ergasiophobia or Ergophobia: fear of
work or functioning, also having to do with a surgeon’s fear of operating.
Erotophobia: fear of sexual fantasies. Erythrophobia: compulsive blushing.
Gephyrophobia: fear of bridges. Genophobia: fear of intercourse.
Glossophobia: fear of speaking in public. Gymnophobia: fear of nudity.
Gynophobia: fear of women. Heliophobia: fear of sunlight. Hemophobia: fear of
blood; also referred to as Haemophobia. Hoplophobia: fear of guns.
Lalophobia: fear of speaking in general. Ligyrophobia: fear of loud noises;
also referred to as Phonophobia. Mysophobia: fear of biocontamination.
Necrophobia: fear of death. Neophobia: fear of newness; also called
Cainophobia, Cainotophobia, Cenophobia, Centophobia, Kainolophobia,
Kainophobia. Nosophobia: fear of disease. Nyctophobia: fear of darkness; also
called Achluophobia, Lygophobia, Scotophobia. Osmophobia: fear of smells.
Pyrophobia: fear of fire. Radiophobia: fear of X-rays. Sociophobia: fear of
society. Taphophobia: fear of being buried alive. Technophobia: fear of
technology. Tetraphobia: fear of the number four. Tokophobia: fear of
childbirth. Trypanophobia: fear of needles; also known as Aichmophobia,
Belonephobia, Enetophobia. Xenophobia: fear of strangers. Ailurophobia: fear
of cats. Apiphobia: fear of bees. Arachnophobia -- rent the movie.
Chirophtophobia: fear of bats. Cynophobia: fear of dogs. Entomophobia: fear
of insects. Equinophobia: fear of horses. Herpetophobia: fear of reptiles.
Ichthyophobia: fear of fish. Musophobia: fear of rats. Ophidiophobia: fear of
snakes. Ornithophobia: fear of birds. Ranidaphobia: fear of frogs. Saving
the best for last... Triskaidekaphobia: fear of the
number thirteen. Paraskavedekatriaphobia: fear of Friday
the thirteenth. Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia:
fear of six six six. Panphobia: fear of everything...but
not knowing why.
