Snippet #1 "War Never Ends"
The DC Ruins. July 4th, 2277

A grey haze, mixed with brown mist and a tinge of yellow. That’s what the land looks like in the age abroad. Depressing, desolate, dreadful, and even demeaning in most places, the shattered corpse of Washington DC was afflicted with much the same disease as the rest of America. Other cities like Pittsburgh, Chicago, and New Vegas have had a nasty dose of the irradiated scourge as well, some less than others, but nonetheless deadly. Off in the distance the sound of a giant scorpion tangling with a pack of over-sized mole rats could be heard rustling in the stale breeze.

Vase Vintage peered into the dark night sky of Post-Apocalyptia. Washington DC was once a place of litigation, commerce and lawmaking, but the law had little to do with the roaring wastelands ahead. What did the world really value now?

Had the planet’s nations felt so jaded that they burned the earth to cinders? Perhaps, they did, after all the most famous year to date was the year of the Great War -2077. Now, a whopping 200 years later, humanity still lives by that ever-present code of violence, namely war.

Vase Vintage was a skinny twenty-year-old with short hair cropped into a stylish Bob-cut. It was so shiny and dark it appeared pitch black at times. Her face was a smooth porcelain picture, only interrupted by the era’s brutality by a long reddish scar that dipped across her left eye. She wore light-weight leather armor, and it too, was a stylish slick black. Vintage was an accomplished thief and mechanic, but she often used her charisma to get what she wanted.

More skill oriented than strength, Vase was a valuable asset to anyone that could capture her. Perhaps that’s why she tagged alongside of Sarah so long.

Or maybe her insecurities were what made her adopt the German Sheppard she found at the junkyard six days ago. Whatever the case, Vase was a thinker, but also a person always willing to act on behalf of the righteous.

Vase lifted her slim body and stood tall against the scenery of grey and dreaded landmarks. She thought about her time in a small vault classroom, dodging wanna-be gangs like the Tunnel Snakes trying to eek out a pleasant existence.

Yet Vase Vintage always thought about the past, she was enamored with tales of the world left behind. She knew that the old world fought over resources. That was not such an uncommon thing to do back then. According to Vault 101’s holo-history files, overpopulation and the collapse of free-trade brought about the sordid Sino-American War and soon after, the bombs really made their power felt.

A stark change from fighting over food, fresh water became the most valuable commodity and everyone wanted it – indeed, they NEEDED it. Now, in the wastelands, purified water was a luxury and irradiated water was the norm. Vase tilted her head wondering if the old leaders of pre-century America knew this; would they have done things differently? She did not know and soon Vase was suddenly woken from her daydreams of a nostalgic by-gone civilization.

"You hear that, sister? 3-Dog got all the scoops on DC." Sarah Lyons said as she oiled the gears on her heavy-plated Power-Armor. "My father told me about him. I sometimes wonder if he knows about the Garden of Eden Creation Kit. That guy has many informants; still, he does preach the word righteously."

With blond-ish hair and a dark ethnic complexion, Sarah Lyons was the daughter to a very influential elder in the Brotherhood of Steel Knights. As it was, there was much expected of her. It was the proverbial problem of filling in the shoes of a great relative. She was strong and knew weapons very well – inside and out. As the tunes of Galaxy Radio belched out from a makeshift radio-box, Sarah tapped her feet to her favorite song.

"Hey, I love this tune, Let’s Go Sunning - now that’s a big band boogie." Lyons remarked. "It keeps my mind thinking of warm yellow sun and away from this dreary mud hole. When I was a kid, my dad took me to a place with real trees. It was so green and lush, and sunny too. He called it the Oasis. Did I ever tell you that, Vase?"
