Page 4 STRYKER She is currently on a leave of absence. Stryker sees the look on Burrows face. STRYKER It is a long, complicated story. CAPTAIN BURROWS Give me the short version. STRYKER She took a leave of absence after
David’s death. CAPTAIN BURROWS I don’t think I follow you. STRYKER They were engaged. CAPTAIN BURROWS. Shit. What makes you think she’ll help
us? Stryker
looks tormented. STRYKER We have a history together. We were
together for a couple of years. But that was before she met David. (slight beat) I think if anybody could get her to
help, it could be me. CAPTAIN BURROWS Do you think she will? STRYKER I really don’t know. I haven’t spoken
to her since the funeral. Looking
completely lost in thought, Burrows leans back in his chair. CAPTAIN BURROWS The Mayor is breathing down my neck.
The press and the victims’ families are demanding answers. The bastard has
already killed three women, and he’s not showing any signs of stopping. If you
think your friend can help, go ahead and talk to her. STRYKER Thank you, sir. EXT. PARK
– EARLY MORNING – RAINING VINCE’S
POV – Through the camera, Riley runs past. Her instincts make her look in his
direction but she does not see anything. We can
hear her breathing and the rhythmic sound of her SHOES STRIKING the WET
PAVEMENT. (O.S.) We
hear the SHUTTER of Vince’s camera. VINCE’S
POV – Through the camera, Riley’s concentration is broken. She stops, within
earshot, and grabs the phone clipped to her hip. She removes her headphones
and answers. RILEY Rebecca Riley here. VINCE (O.S.) Well, hello Rebecca. RILEY Michael? It’s… It’s just that it’s been
awhile. I’ve been okay. (O.S.) We
hear the SHUTTER of Vince’s camera. Riley
looks down at her watch. RILEY Right now? I’m in the middle of my
run. I could be home in about 30 minutes. See you then. Riley
looks completely taken off guard by the call. She sighs as she clips the phone
to her hip. VINCE’S
POV – Through the camera, Riley retraces her path. Just as Riley runs past for
the second time, there is a blur of movement further down the trail. The
background comes into focus. VINCE’S
POV (cont’d) – Through the camera, we see another WOMAN, ASHLEY DERMONT, who
looks to be in her early twenties. She passes Riley and is currently running
in Vince’s direction. Unlike Riley, Ashley looks like running is more of a
chore. VINCE (O.S.) There you are, Ashley. (O.S.) We
hear the SHUTTER of Vince’s camera. VINCE’S
POV – Through the camera, Ashley runs along the trail right in front of him. We hear
heavy breathing and the sound of her SHOES HITTING the WET PAVEMENT, although
not as rhythmic as Riley’s. VINCE’S
POV – Through the camera, we soon lose Ashley behind trees and bushes as the
trail shifts. Vince
lowers his camera and looks down at his watch. He smiles. VINCE Right on time. Vince
removes a small leather notebook from his camera case and opens it. CLOSE ON
JOURNAL – As he flips through its pages, we can see numerous names atop its
pages. He stops on the page that is headed with the name “Ashley Dermont.”
Under her name is a long list of activities and times. Vince adds this
activity and time to his list. [ Continue to page 5 ] |
