Page 1 The Insect Pit On the outside banks of Skull Island,
a number of natives were gathering sticks and stones. Their chief, a milky-eyed
elder, stepped in to order the frantic crowd. “Mu gobba de jatara! …Jatara min
Bago!” This seeming gibberish was actually
the chief ordering the men to light torches and load up their primitive slings.
This was an ordinary action whenever confronted by one of Skull Island’s
bigheaded dragons; namely the T-rex, Allosaurs, and other huge, Therapod
dinosaurs that plagued their population. They had seen Godzilla approaching
from off shore and quickly began to make their defensive arrangements.
Ordinarily, the natives had an elaborate set of measures for defense, including
a way to release a stream of lava to act as a deadly moat. This kept most of
the predatory dinosaurs from ravaging their ragtag villages. It also kept their
infamous god, King Kong from ripping into their numbers as well. However,
Godzilla was not entering from the inner rainforest. Instead, he was coming
from the opposite end, using the ocean itself. One of the men noticed that Godzilla
looked different from most of the other dragons of Skull Island…and indeed, he
was. Unlike most reptiles, he was warm-blooded and very active. With a weird
skin texture and fragmented back plates, Godzilla appeared out of the ordinary
from the meat-eating dinosaurs they were used to seeing. More so, this oddball
monster seemed to have a rather sinister look in his eyes and his reptilian
face appeared to show more expression. Nevertheless, they decided they’d deal
with Godzilla in the same way they dealt with other pesky dragons -- by leading
them to other creatures ferocious enough to distract them from their village.
However, Godzilla was no ordinary dinosaur and in moments, the raisin-skinned
reptile was about to prove it. Still wet from swimming up shore,
Godzilla shook off the last of the drenching seawater on him by whisking his
back plates back and forth like a dog shaking its fur. Looking toward the most
obvious outcrop, Godzilla began to make his way up the rocky cliff side, moving
his twenty-five foot body through the uneven terrain with expert ease. Such
tricky terrain did little to hinder Godzilla, as he was already use to handling
similar terrain in his homeland back at Monster Island. Godzilla was a magnificent beast to
behold. Still being young, his lightweight allowed him to move about in typical
T-rex fashion. This meant bent over and perfectly balanced much like a huge,
ground bird. But this was probably the only real similarity between him and the
rest of his dinosaur ancestors. In truth, Godzilla sported many biological
aspects that were truly unique to him. For example, he had much longer, almost
primate-like arms, while his eyes pointed forward. His insides boasted a
dynamic way of mixing flammable venom, incendiary gases, and powerful
electricity. These were strange traits mutated by radiation and ones that gave
the radioactive reptile supernatural abilities. Adding to this, super-tough
skin covered his body and gave off a queer raisin-like appearance, while rows
of sharp teeth adorned his mouth. This often attributed the large reptile with
a slick, demonic smile. Now perched atop the rocky plateau, Godzilla stood up high and
surveyed the surrounding area. After several moments, the massive reptile
noticed a small mob of savage humans heading his way. Godzilla briefly turned
his head to ignore them. Being only twenty-five feet tall, and just five years
of age, Godzilla was still inexperienced in dealing with such intelligent
monkeys. But until he reached a size big enough to avoid damage from these
reckless natives, the radioactive reptile had to give the pesky primates his
undivided attention. The leader of the savages threw a long spear at Godzilla with all
his might. In previous times, the brave native had injured other dragons this
way, even some formidable Allosaurs. But Godzilla was quick and agile. He
merely swept the big spear back with his mighty tail as if it were a toothpick.
Coming to back up their leader, a bevy of savages began hurling rocks and
slinging burning spears at him. Although this didn’t hurt Godzilla, it did
manage to aggravate him. In response, Godzilla arched his back and let out one
of his bloodcurdling roars. This alone set the majority of natives running away
in fear. But two courageous natives kept goading the large reptile. [ Continue to page 2 ] |
