Subject: Wes Craven in PittsburghDate: Mon 4-Apr-2005, 23:25:57

I went to a lecture tonight at the University of Pittsburgh from Wes Craven. I'm not the biggest fan in the world of his, most of his films I consider garbage in fact, but he is a really interesting speaker. He went into great detail about how he "stumbled" into the film business and how he created the character of Freddy. Freddy was the name of a bully that beat him up as a kid. He also got the idea of the fedora from a bum he saw out of his window one night as a kid who was staring at him. One thing he said that amazed me was that he has problems with Tarantino's work because he glorifies torture in films like "Reservoir Dogs"! Anyone see "Last House on the Left"? Geez. But anyway, if you ever have the chance to go see a director talk at a college, go check it out. Interesting stories to be heard.
