Monday October 11, 1999-New York Times

A fire had occurred in a factory in the area of the city of Perth Amboy. Local fire fighters tried to stop the burning blaze, but the smoke and oddly colored fog was holding up their efforts. This strange fog appeared blue-green in color. Several scientists owned the factory from Robert Wood Johnson University hospital. They were testing a new cell system to rejuvenate certain dead cells to reanimation. The liquid is not a form of disease, so no one can get sick over, however, police are saying to the residents of Perth Amboy to keep their windows closed. No one is allowed outside until this fog passes us and dissipates.

Friday October 15, 1999 11:19 p.m.

The car turned off at the exit to Perth Amboy from the Garden State Parkway. Inside was a college student named George. He never saw it coming. He had heard about the fire over in Perth Amboy, but wasn't too worried about it. It was only fog, he thought that's all; it's not like it would kill everybody. He continued onward towards Florida Grove Rd. past the town of Woodbridge, and in a matter of minutes he would be home to celebrate his mom's birthday. She just turned 52. He got her a gift too, new clothes that she will definitely like.

"What the..." He said. He noticed something rather unusual, as he got closer to the town. Crows, and a shitload of them. Most of them on the ground, a lot of them on trees, and several in the air. Maybe there was a dead animal nearby, but for ALL those crows to notice, it probably must've been a HUGE animal, like a moose to attract a lot of these friggin' birds. Only, he thought, there hasn't been a moose in this town for as long as he could remember.

There was something else wrong just as well: He hasn't seen a person out walking around, nor any cars around since entered the town. The crows surprised him, now this lack of life in Perth Amboy has got him into a state of shock. It wasn't just weird; it was impossible, completely impossible. Unless the entire town had skipped town, which is rather not likely. Then, what the hell was it that is making Perth Amboy a ghosttown? It wasn't just the lack of life; there was something there too.

This rather interesting smell just appeared. It was like a sour milk smell, like road kill. George stopped the car, looked around...quiet. Too quiet. No wind, a major stench, crows, he had seen this somewhere before. "Resident Evil 2!" That's where it was from, that's where it all started. Then, what was supposed to...? OH SHIT! He jumped into his car and drove off. He headed into town at full speed. The town was completely dark, most of the buildings empty, and a few streetlights were on. He had to get to his house, quickly as possible. He headed past the bridge over Route 9, and there he was. The town, he could check it out. If there are problems, he could get outta the city, and call the Perth Amboy police. He could do that, then maybe try to search for his family

"Help!"

He stopped the car, there was someone limping towards George. A cop, a Perth Amboy cop, coming towards him. His clothes completely torn and dirty, he seemed to leave a trail behind him. It was blood; he was bleeding!

He tried to get to the kid with all his strength. He hoped he could get help, he was hurt badly, and it all happened in just two days. He tried to move faster, but the bites were too painful. He can feel his life slowing down, no I won't die, I won't die, he thought. He saw the guy and his car, hope at last. I must get to him and warn him, maybe he'll help me get outta this damn town, he thought. He tried to talk to him.

"Gotta...help...me." the cop gasped. George just looked, almost terrified as to what he was trying to say.

"Help me, please..."he said. He got up to George's car; George took a few steps back. "Hold on officer, what's going on?" He asked the dying cop.

"Help...me...zombies...living...dead." He whispered. He pulled something out, a gun, and one full clip. He wasn't going to make it, but maybe the kid could stop it. "Here...try...save...survive...ors." Blood gurgling out of his mouth, then he collapsed. Everything suddenly went dark, dark all of a sudden, so peaceful...

George saw the cop die, at his feet. He just stared at what the cop tried to give him. A gun, he bent over and picked it up, and the clip. He had a gun, but there was one problem: He didn't really know how to use a gun. He still kept it just in case. He searched the cop for anything else, but he couldn't find anything, anything important. He looked around the town, he was near the entrance to the A&P and Bradlees stores just up the street. It looked clear, considering there was nobody there. He went back into his car.
