I, myself, had no problems with the characters. I think Romero did a good job with setting up a diverse group of characters but I also think that it would have been better if he had more time. I just feel that the characters and the movie as a whole are a bit rushed. I still enjoy them, however.
As far as Simon Baker(Riley) goes.....I can understand what you're saying about him seeming a bit flat but I think it works out better that way. Think of the character of Riley as a modern day Michael Vronsky(Robert DeNiro) from "The Deer Hunter". He was a very similar type character in that he doesn't show off too much emotion but at the same time it lets the audience know that he's using his head and that's how he prevails as a survivor.
But back to your original question.....The only thing I would change about LAND would be to go back and give Romero the time he needed to really polish off the film. |
