Runaway

"But Mom, I want Megatah super starter toy NOW! NOW!" Screamed Billy, his head pointed upward, teeth clenched, tears streaming out of his five year old eyes. He stamped his feet too- giving his whining an almost jazzy beat.

"William Gregory Fallardson!" Yelled his mom indignantly. "Is that the way you talk to your mother? March your rear up to your room IMMEDIATELY!" She hollared.

"NO!" Billy said quickly, crossing his pudgy arms. He had seen the Megatah toy advertised in a commercial during Flyer Fish and Friends (Only on CHANNEL SEVEN AT TWO THIRTY! Screamed the advertisement that aired at the end of every commercial break). It was so cool! These two kids brought the box home and then it blasted open, blackening their faces and sending their hair in all directions. The action figure then floated out and started blasting at Math Textbooks. He then flew about while the keyboard oriented music blared.

Billy was so lost in thought that he hadn't seen his mom heading for him. He finally awoke when she was three feet away from him. She grabbed him by the wrist and he had attempted turning around. He succeeded, but his mother was too swift. Her spanking hand was as speedy and graceful as a Samurai's Katana, and (To a five year old, anyway) just as painful. She managed to slap his rear end twice, the sharp pain not dulled by his Power Fighters underwear or his dark green sweatpants.

The sudden hurt made him jump swiftly forward, and he scrambled haphazardly up the carpeted stairs to his room, slamming the door and hearing the wind whistle out of his Megatah poster. He jumped onto his bed, hugged his pillow (Which, unlike many of the things that belonged to Billy, was undecorated) and cried. It was at this moment that the most wonderful, adventurous, and (To a five year old) erotic idea his young mind had ever formulated. He would run away.

Billy walked over to his closet and pulled open the painted door. Inside, he found a backpack, a small bag of crackers, and a little blanket. He packed these neatly and carefully into the bag, put it on. He was just about to leave his room when he turned back around, opened the closet again, and fished around inside. He came out of it wearing a red Megatah cap. His backpack was now bulging with the outline of a Flyer Fish action figure. He opened the bedroom door and stepped out. He then took a daring peek down the stairs. He saw his mom heading for the bathroom, and took this opportunity to hurry down the steps and toward the front door, which was right at the foot of the staircase.

His bedroom door didn't creak, but the stairs, however, did. He had to walk slowly and carefully so he wouldn't alarm his mother. She was in the bathroom.

While Billy was going down, he could hear the news. They were saying something about people in a trance and a crashed venus probe. He paid no mind to it, and finally reached the door. He pulled the lock, opened the door, stepped out, and closed it behind him. Taking a deep sigh in and smiling, he set off.

Back at the house, Billy's mom got out of the bathroom and sat back down at the television. She had missed the top story on the venus probe.

Standing still and looking up at a small wooden sign that said "MENOTOMY STATE PARK", Billy decided that the best way to go was left. The sky was blue, but was dotted with strange greenish clouds. These disturbed him not, and he walked on whistling the theme to Megatah and Friends. He walked down some dirt paths, strolled near a waterfall, and finally found a nice spot to make camp on a boulder near a brook. He put down his backpack, unzipped the top, and took out the blanket. He spread it out over the drop, aptly covering the pro-nazi piece of graffiti. He then took the box of crackers out and laid that on the corner. Finally, he placed the Flyer Fish on the top of the box. He then picked up Flyer Fish and walked over to the brook, dipping the silver dolphin into the water and feeling the cool water flow through his fingertips.

Billy was having so much fun playing with his plastic toy that the darkening skies surprised him. He had no intention of returning home, and he had more than enough crackers to last him until at least the next day. He got up, dried the figure off with his T-Shirt, and sat on his blanket. He lay back and looked at the stars. He watched the sky get darker and darker until night finally became absolute.
