Excerpts from Army operations post Easy during Operation
"Clean Sweep", circa 2005. Various breaks and inconsistencies remain
due to a loss of several such records in the years following "Hell
Night" and the plague.
Charlie: Easy base, Easy base this is
Charlie Company, come in Easy.
Easy: Easy to Charlie, what's your
status.
Charlie: ...[static & gunfire]...
Easy base we are being over run, repeat, rescue station at Blue Hole is being
over [gunfire] run! Need evac now!
Easy: Be advised, no helos are available
for six hours while "Operation Clean Sweep" is underway.
Charlie: Didn't you fucking hear me you
pencil pushing [gunfire, screaming] we need evac now! Platoon leader is dead,
we have casualties and civilians everywhere! Get me a damn [gunfire] helo!
Easy: No helos are available. You're
platoon leader's dead? Who's in charge out there?
Charlie: ...[static]...[gunfire]... Say
again, Easy. [gunfire, screaming, breaking glass]
Easy: Who's in charge of Charlie
Company?!
Charlie: [explosion, small] I am! First
Sergeant Michael Sadler, 414688970! What can you send if you ain't got any
fucking [gunfire] helos?!
Easy: ...[papers rustling]...[more
papers]... Civilian bus and a squad from Fox company can be to you in forty
minutes.
Charlie: ...[static]...
Easy: Still there, Charlie Company?!
Charlie: ...[gunfire, moaning]... They've
breached the perimeter! [gunfire, shouting, moans] Where's the nearest rescue
station?!
Easy: ...[papers rustling]... Rock
Springs, eight miles south by south east. Fox company is inbound and will meet
you at the interstate.
Charlie: [man screams, It fucking bit me!
more gunfire] Affirmative! Charlie out! [gunfire then static]
Two hours of radio silence...
Fox: ...[static]...ase! I repeat, come in
Easy base! For Chris...[static]...amn reciever!
Easy: Fox Company this is Easy base.
What's your status?
Fox: ...[static]...[gunfire]... Charlie
Company is gone, repeat Charlie Company is gone. No survivors! All units are
now considered hostile! They side swip...[static]...s, the bastards! They're
getting smarter!
Easy: ... Can you repeat that Fox
Company? It sounded like you said they're getting smarter.
Fox: ...[static]...t's right, Easy,
they're getting smarter. They stopped us and we got ready to let them board
but then we noticed the smell and...[static]...when we let 'em hav...[static,
gunfire]... They fucking side swiped us! Tossed a frag in the bus! Martinez
through it out but it detonated just over the...[static]...nd now we're
surrounded! Martinez and Sanders are dead! Burton's in bad shape and we are
running low on ammunition! Request immediate airlift!
Easy: ...[silence]... There are no
available helos for an airlift!
Fox: ...[static]...[gunfire and
screaming]... They're getting into the bu...[static]...[gunfire, screams,
moaning]...erywhere! Die you ugly mother...[gunfire followed by static]...
Easy: Fox Company, come in Fox Company.
Repeat, come in Fox Company!
...[silence]...
Fox: ...[static]...[gurgling, moaning
sounds]...[gurgling, muttering voices]...
Easy: Say again, Fox Company.
Fox: ...[static]... I repeat, we are
inbound Easy base. Sit tight and don't go anywhere...[muttering voices,
moaning]...
Easy: Who is this?! Clear the air, we've
got an emergency here!
Fox: ...[static, gurgling noises,
muttering]...rst Sergeant Michael Sadler, Charlie company. We are inbound on
your location, over and out...[silence]...
