Subject: See your comparison and raise it | Date: Thu 3-Nov-2005, 14:22:33 | | | They released Land when there were HUGE summer blockbusters filling every cinema; Dawn 04 came out with NO DISCERNABLE genre competition or films that would be "blockbusters" or others that were new that would seriously dent Dawn's appeal:
From http://www.the-numbers.com/charts/weekly/2004/20040319.html 1 (new) Dawn of the Dead 2 (1) Passion of the Christ, The 3 (new) Taking Lives 4 (3) Starsky & Hutch 5 (2) Secret Window 6 (4) Hidalgo 7 (new) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 8 (5) Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London 9 (6) 50 First Dates 10 (8) Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
NOT one genre film that would steal away scifi or horor geeks..no Star Wars or Batman. NOW here is LOTD' U.S. competition: 1 (1) Batman Begins 2 (new) Bewitched 3 (2) Mr. And Mrs. Smith 4 (new) Herbie: Fully Loaded 5 (new) George A. Romero's Land of the Dead 6 (3) Madagascar 7 (4) Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith 8 (5) Longest Yard, The (2005) 9 (6) Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl
It's totally conceivable that someone might choose Batman over Land, or Mr. and Mrs. SMith (heavily hyped, do Pitt and Angelina do it on-screen?), etc.---the market for movies was higher and the choices were bigger. GAR fans went the first week, and everyone else was still seeing the bigger mass market, heavily hyped super blockbusters |
