I get the whole Cholo wanting money thing, but I question what he thinks he is going to do with it. If Cholo goes back to the city to live the rich life then Kaufman will just try to have him killed, because Kaufman will still have the power over his army (of course the zombie complicate things). If Cholo just leaves with the money then it is essentially useless, unless he finds another bastion of civilization using the same currency.

I understand that money still works within their closed economy, but when he takes any amount outside of that economy then it just becomes paper.

Plus I wonder exactly how much money is gone from the surrounding area. When Cholo and the others raided that liquor store it didn't look like it had been ransacked, so if they would have checked the cash register then there very well might have been money in it. Otherwise I would agree that most of the paper currency would be rotting away.

I reread your post again, and it does make sense if he were wanting to take Kaufman down a level, but I still think that Cholo would be screwed if he tried to go back and live in the city with the money. I think he does a bigger blow to Kaufman by taking Dead Reckoning than demanding any amount of money, but that's just my opinion.
