I totally disagree.

28 Days Later & Dawn04, while not seen as Romero-style zombie flicks by the high and mighty zombie purists, are considered zombie flicks by most people. Their success set the stage for LOTD to finally be made.

Hell, Day of the Dead is two decades old and Romero has had a script for the 4th movie rolling around for how long now? LOTD starting production on the heels of these movies is not a coincidence. Studio said, "Hey look, people want zombie movies, give that Romero guy a call and get us one."

Even GAR credits the popularity of these films (and Shaun of the Dead) with greasing the wheels for LOTD.
