Subject: DOTD04 WAS a zombie movieDate: Sun 19-Jun-2005, 06:07:45

Contrary to popular opinion around here, GAR didn't invent zombies.
Just 'cause the remake zombies aren't classic GAR doesn't mean
they're not zombies. The remake was a DIFFERENT movie than Dawn '78.
It was exactly as a remake should be, updated for a new generation.
That doesn't mean some people won't think it sucks -- but there are
plenty of people who like it... And some of them prefer it to Dawn '78.
Which you prefer is a matter of opinion... Clearly the movie had
appeal. It did well at the box office, and will proabably get its own
sequel. Hopefully Land of the Dead will do equally well and GAR will
get a 5th movie. In any eveny, I don't think DOTD04 diminishes Dawn
'78 in any way -- all it inicates is that a bunch of people thought
enough of the original to feel it was worth it to try to reinterpret
it for the 21st century. Why that bothers people so much is a
mystery. The one thing that makes me a little nuts is that GAR didn't
get paid for it. But, hey, business is business and GAR did a shitty
job of managing his material back in the day, so he's got no one to
blame but himself.

Just my take on things.
